Grants

Did you know that in most areas of the U.S., when you stay in a hotel or motel, part of the tax you pay goes back into the local community to support art and culture programs? Nice idea, isn't it? A lot of what we do at SETAC falls under this category -- what we call "sub-granting" -- grants made possible through funds provided by hotel/motel occupancy taxes as well as general fund allocations from city governments, directed grants from local business and industry, and member donations.

Our sub-grantors include the Cities of Orange, Beaumont, and Port Arthur, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Steinhagen Foundation, MOTIVA Enterprises, HEB, Goodyear, Entergy, local businesses, and member donations.

How Does Sub-Granting Work?

Every year, we call for grant requests. Then we evaluate projects put forth by qualified nonprofit organizations and make awards on a matching basis. The understanding is that these grants are not intended to be the sole source of support for any group or project.

Believing that a rising tide of support lifts all, SETAC never intends to redirect local giving or interrupt financial gifts that individuals or businesses make directly to local organizations. Rather, SETAC serves as an adjunct to established giving programs.
